Double trouble for the logistics industry

Added to the news that a record 463 operators went bust in the UK in the last 12 months (more than double the number two years ago, according to data obtained by Price Bailey, the Top 30 accountants), is that yet another leading haulier, Owens Group, has suffered a malicious IT malware attack.

One easy way for a freight operator both to limit their costs and manage any potential IT concerns is to use a Software as a Service (SaaS*) provider for your TMS.

Recent Motor Transport cost tables show that - at best - direct running costs are flat this year, as a result keeping overheads low, or at least within reason, is key to delivering a healthy P&L. One easily accessible way for a freight operator both to limit costs and manage any potential IT concerns is to use a Software as a Service (SaaS*) provider for your TMS. Not only will they manage your IT security issues (a standard part of their core offering) but you, the operator, will only be charged for what you need. In addition, the provider will absorb any capital cost requirements - which usually devolve upon the freight operator. Furthermore, there will be no need for additional IT infrastructure (in fact, you may sell most of what you have) and you will have leading IT experts available to resolve outstanding customer requirements on a 24/7 basis. All of which means you save money and that is vital at a time when, according to Price Bailey, soaring costs are eroding profits - fast! If you don't believe this is possible, please set bashir.khan@deltion.co.uk the challenge and he will be more than happy to take it up by demonstrating Deltion’s own CarrierNet TMS’s capabilities.

*SaaS is the acronym for ‘Software as a Service’. Essentially, it is a software licensing and delivery model in which software is licensed on a subscription basis and is centrally hosted. It’s actually a software rental model, sometimes referred to as “on-demand software”. Deltion’s own award-winning CarrierNet was the first internet-based logistics solution and has been recognised internationally as the leading web-based application for supply chain, logistics and transport management.
