We were delighted to read recently on techfundingnews.com that UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), is funding “...a project to deliver an industry-first AI safety and efficiency solution for UK ports and warehouses of all sizes …” - in other words, the responsible use of AI and machine learning technologies in logistics to improve freight operations processes as well as transparency and security at UK ports and warehouses.
We think this is a sorely needed initiative because, while AI has been used in the transport sector for longer than you may think (all computerised routing and scheduling systems can be considered to use some form of AI), uptake of the technology has been slow among traditionally minded freight operators and organisations. So, we believe this is a good news story that highlights how we can provide opportunities for some disruptive, but more importantly, transformative technologies to enter the sector. This can only be an excellent development for the freight transport industry as a whole and, at last, its smarter operators will be able increasingly to replace industry Luddites, who always find new technologies and developments threatening.
Deltion already employs AI techniques in its transport management system (TMS), CarrierNet, and we would be more happy to demonstrate its effectiveness and ease of use to anyone who may be interested. Contact Bashir Khan here to set up a free demo.
